Solid state spacetimes

According to Einstein, the gravity admits a geometric description in terms of a metric and its dynamics. In quantum condensed matter, underlying lattice facilitates the formation of effective background spacetime geometry for the electrons. I set out to understand novel solid-state phenomena that result from the new spactime structures and to discover more materials in this family.

research interest

I work on the theory of materials. My background training is on strong electron correlation and disorder. Currently my main focus is on Dirac/Weyl materials and possible deformations of the Dirac theory in solids. In particular, there are materials in which the Dirac cone is or can be tilted. At length scales large compared to atomic distances, these solids can be described by a new spacetime structure. I would like to understand, how are solid state phenomena modified when they are mounted on lattice structures that can furnish new spacetime structures.

Teaching

My undergraduate teaching interests spans a wide spectrum. But in graduate teaching, I am highly focused on core condensed matter and many-body courses. During the pandemy I teach online in the virtual class facility of the Sharif University of Technology.
